A COVID-19 statement
From the earliest days of the Coronavirus outbreak in China, we have been working tirelessly to meet critical customer needs, protecting the health and safety of our employees and ensuring business continuity.
At the outset of this crisis Metro directors set up a COVID-19 Response Team to monitor the situation globally, safeguard business continuity and follow changing regulations/legislation.
Meeting twice daily the team support Metros’ operations and work closely with customers to ensure that we continue to deliver the safe and timely support they require, to meet their transport, logistics and supply chain needs.
Metro has implemented the relevant safety protocols in all our sites, with enhanced hygiene measures and thorough cleansing taking place continuously.
Our global ‘working from home’ protocol for all employees whose roles can be carried out remotely, also helps to maintain a safe working environment for colleagues who are carrying out business-critical activities and need to be at a Metro location to do so.
Despite the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic Metro, as critical workers, has been able to continue its business operations around the world and while we have seen decreased demand in some product categories, there has been massive and immediate demand for protective equipment (PPE) and medical equipment, particularly from China.
We take pride in the way that our team and partners around the world reacted to the need to support healthcare providers and their patients in the fight against COVID-19, arranging the urgent consolidation and despatch of millions of pieces of critical kit, by ‘Preighter’, Freighter and Charter aircraft.
The crisis has underlined the value of the considerable investment we have made in digitalisation over the last decade and in particular the cloud-based systems that our partners and customers are now using to great effect.
Managing complex global operations within an agile global supply chain, requires end-to-end real-time visibility, control and intelligence, to support data-driven, risk management and contingency planning.
This is a new situation, and something none of us could have predicted, however Metro is a responsible organisation with robust business continuity plans and procedures to deal with eventualities such as this, and we would like to reassure all customers, staff and stakeholders that your safety and wellbeing remains our number one priority.
Considerable investment has been made to ensure that our staff have a safe place to work, as and when they return to the office and that both they and our customers can have full confidence in Metro.
There will be more challenges over the coming weeks and months, but as long as we keep working together, sharing information and helping each other, we will continue to deliver the highest levels of service, as we always have.
If you have any concerns or questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Yours Sincerely,
The Metro Team
