Global Finance Director

Birmingham

Shape the Financial Future of a Growing Global Logistics Business

Metro is moving through an exciting period of international growth, investment and transformation. With operations spanning the UK, US, India and wider global markets, we are strengthening how we operate, improving the way we use financial insight and building scalable foundations for the future.

As our Global Finance Director, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the next chapter of that journey. This is a senior leadership opportunity with Board-level visibility, international influence, direct interaction with finance peers across the wider GB Global group and the scope to build a finance function that is commercially focused, globally connected and equipped to support ambitious growth.

Your Next Opportunity

We are looking for an ambitious, commercially minded Global Finance Director to lead Metro’s international finance function through its next stage of growth.

This is a role for someone who wants to build, improve and influence. You will take ownership of global financial governance, statutory reporting, management accounts, taxation, treasury, controls, multi-entity reporting and finance leadership, while modernising how finance supports the business.

You will create scalable processes, strengthen global reporting, improve financial insight and develop a more connected finance community across our international operations. If you are energised by building capability, improving performance and making finance a true strategic partner, this is an opportunity to make a visible and lasting impact.

What You’ll Own

Statutory Reporting & Compliance

  • Lead high-quality statutory reporting and financial compliance across Metro’s international entities.
  • Ensure strong compliance with UK GAAP, IFRS and relevant local regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee external audits, year-end processes and key relationships with auditors, advisors and regulatory bodies.
  • Lead financial audit readiness across all relevant entities, ensuring timely delivery of audit schedules, evidence, reconciliations and management responses.
  • Strengthen month-end, quarter-end and year-end reporting to improve accuracy, insight and confidence in the numbers.
  • Own the production and continuous improvement of monthly management accounts, ensuring timely, accurate and meaningful reporting for local, regional and Group stakeholders.
  • Develop robust global control frameworks that support consistency, accountability and good governance.
  • Oversee taxation matters across relevant jurisdictions, working with external advisors and regional finance teams to ensure compliance, appropriate planning and clear accountability.
  • Lead group consolidations and multi-currency reporting across a growing global structure.

Treasury & Cash Management

Shape and deliver a Group treasury strategy that supports international growth and operational resilience.

  • Optimise global cash flow, liquidity and working capital across multiple markets.
  • Oversee banking relationships across multiple countries.
  • Manage foreign exchange exposure and hedging strategies.
  • Provide clear oversight of FX risk, currency exposure, intercompany settlements and multi-currency cash requirements across Metro entities.
  • Monitor debt facilities, banking covenants and financing arrangements.
  • Deliver accurate cash flow forecasts and treasury reporting to the Board.
  • Drive improvements in global cash management and treasury controls.
  • Strengthen payables and receivables management, improving discipline around cash collection, supplier payments, working capital and aged debt visibility.

Global Finance Leadership

  • Lead and develop a connected global finance team, creating consistency, accountability and shared standards across international operations.
  • Partner with regional finance leaders, operational teams and commercial stakeholders to improve performance and decision-making.
  • Lead, support and hold accountable regional finance leaders, including India and the USA, ensuring strong local ownership within a consistent global finance framework.
  • Build a culture of financial excellence, shared ownership and continuous improvement.
  • Build peer-level relationships with finance colleagues across the wider GB Global group, sharing knowledge, aligning approaches and ensuring Metro is appropriately represented in group-wide finance discussions.
  • Standardise reporting, controls and processes so the finance function can scale effectively as Metro grows.
  • Support international expansion, acquisitions and entity integrations.
  • Represent Metro effectively in wider GB Global initiatives, ensuring finance input is proactive, commercially balanced and aligned with both Metro’s priorities and Group expectations.
  • Partner with operational and commercial leaders to drive business performance.
  • Provide strategic financial insight to the Executive Leadership Team.
  • Act as a trusted strategic partner to the Board and Executive Leadership Team, bringing clarity, challenge and commercial insight.

What You’ll Need

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Senior finance leadership experience, ideally as a Finance Director, Group Finance Director, Global Finance Director or as a strong number two within a complex international business.
  • Extensive experience managing statutory reporting for multiple international entities.
  • Strong treasury management experience including banking, cash management and FX exposure.
  • Demonstrable experience managing finance teams across multiple countries.
  • Experience leading a function where several offices report into a central finance structure.
  • Strong understanding of UK GAAP, IFRS and international accounting requirements.
  • Experience in complex group consolidations and multi-currency environments.
  • Strong understanding of management accounts, financial audits, taxation, FX, payables, receivables and working capital management.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
